1996 Navarro Vineyards Gewürztraminer Estate Bottled, Dry Anderson Valley, Mendocino

4 grapes

Available at:
Cristall's Wine Market - Edmonton, Alberta
Retail: $29.99

Most people are startled by the russet-red appearance of ripe Gewürztraminer, even though it is a white wine. The deep colors indicate high levels of terpenes, the aromatic compounds that make Gewürz so floral. Pickers sort the reddest fruit right in the field.

How do you make a perfect bottle of Gewürztraminer? You start with perfect buckets of Gewürz grapes. Over the last three decades Navarro has earned a reputation for producing perhaps America´s best Gewürztraminer.

The 1996 is certainly no exception. Full of ripe fruit aromas along with the classical lychee and spice flavours, this well aged wine still offers all those wonderful tasting components in full bloom.

While the winery has released the 2000 vintage, there are still some older vintages around. Besides the 1996, Cristall's still has 1997.

The Purple Feet Rating System:

5 grapes = spectacular
4 grapes = delicious
3 grapes = yummy
2 grapes = okay
1 grape = awkward
