1999 Syrah - Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve - Vina Carmen - Maipo Valley - Chile

4 grapes

A 60% Syrah 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine has a Rhone-like quality that makes it very endearing to any palate. While it may still present some harsh tannins, it is presence of blackberry fruit that softens the whole with lots and lots of mouth feel pleasure. Get it while you can. Limited quantity available in Alberta.

Some technical notes:
The grapes come from Estate Vineyards that are located in the foothills of the Maipo Valley. The grapes were harvested by hand and selected before crushed. The fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks at 28C to insure fruitiness and elegance to the aroma. A total maceration period of 20 days took place for higher complexity and more body. Malolatic fermentation occurred naturally in tanks and barrels. This blend aged in French and American oak barrels for a period of 8 months. The wine was bottled for an additional ageing period of 4 months before release. With this, tannins were softened and matured. Ageing Potential: 5 to 7 years.

The Purple Feet Rating System:

5 grapes = spectacular
4 grapes = delicious
3 grapes = yummy
2 grapes = okay
1 grape = awkward
