2001 Syrah - Concho y Toro - Chile

4 grapes

At a recent Concho y Toro tasting in Edmonton, I was very impressed with this wine. Syrah has now become a variety to contend with in Chile. It offers wonderful richness, supple tannins and great black berry fruit flavours that have become synonomous with pleasure to our Canadian palates.

And this example, at well under $13.00 retail, not only offers great taste but exceptional value. A GREAT BUY! Pick up by the case! I know I will.

Some technical details:
Variety: Syrah.
Appellation: Maipo Valley (40%), Rapel (35%), Maule (25%).
Harvest: Hand picked harvest. April.
Vintage: 2001.
Soil: Benchland, hillside and piedmont vineyard.
Aging: 75% aged in small American oak about 6 to 8 months. 25% aged in stainless steel.
Color: Dark and deep ruby red
Nose: Rich blackberries, plums and chocolate aromas
Taste: Round and mouthfilling with ample soft and sweet tannins with a distinctive soft note in the finish
Enjoy with: Red meats, lamb and ripe cheeses.

The Purple Feet Rating System:
